When produce items are refrigerated it takes the shelf life of days to weeks. According to the text Wegmans changes out produce 12 times a day. Wegmans says that they donate their left-over produce to food banks in their area, “Wegmans donates these items daily to over 300 local food banks, food pantries and soup kitchens near our stores. In 2014, 13.5 million pounds of food were consumed by people in need rather than going to a landfill, and we feel very good about that!” (Wegmans, 2016).
