Week's Therapy Session Analysis

This week’s therapy session went well. Erica showed me several ways to release stress when feeling anxious and I have already used them a few times since our meeting. We talked a lot about my body image issues and discussed where they may have stemmed from. After talking about my childhood and high school years we decided that my body image issues started around the age twelve and have gotten worse since I have started binging and purging. Erica asked me many times how I saw myself and this was hard to answer. It’s hard to explain to someone how it feels to look in the mirror and not recognize the person staring back at you. It is hard to explain to someone how angry and disgusted I feel after binging and purging; as I typically end up

Outcome measures provide a way to evaluate the success of physical therapy treatments, providing a way for comparing outcomes related to different intervention approaches. The use of standardized tests and measures early in an episode of care establishes the baseline status of the patient/client, providing a way to measure the change in the patient's abilities. Each outcome measure is created to look at a different population or injury classification. Two outcome measures that can be used in the lower limb amputee population are the Patient Specific Functional Scale and the Rivermead Mobility Index. When comparing outcome measure one should look at the validity, reliability and responsiveness of the outcome measure they are choosing.…

After meeting with Frank and hearing the reason why he has come to therapy there are a few follow up questions that will help me better understand what is going on and how I can help. All of the follow up questions fall under three major categories: identity, friend’s death, and views on counseling. Exploring’s Frank identity is important because growing up in a Latino and Catholic home means that there are certain values and traditions followed that shape not only the person’s life but their world view. Questions that are pertinent to exploring his identity are asking what values he holds due to being Latino and/or being Catholic, is he a devout Catholic because of tradition or personal choice and has he experienced any discrimination because…

Thank you for sending Renee back to see me just over two years since the last appointment. When last reviewed, Renee trialled modafinil, reaching a dose of 200mg bd, but struggled with it due to nausea and what she believed to be increased somnolence. She did not attend for a follow-up appointment and has battles through with the symptoms over the last couple of years. Her sleep patterns are similar to before in that she is achieving typically eight hours of sleep and is consistently waking unrefreshed with daytime somnolence. On weekends, she will sleep for several hours during the day without any appreciable improvement in symptoms.…

I must say that the first and second day at the school was very hectic. Several children were having a difficult time adjusting to the classroom environment and some of them had to be removed. Most of the children required one-on-one counseling before returning to their classroom. I can definitely see the need for this service within the school system. Although there is a social worker and a school counselor, the children still require more one-on-one interaction.…

My obsessions towards a slimmer silhouette only flourished when I would see myself on TV. Being an anchorwoman for my school news, my main concern was wether or not my upper torso matched my standards on what I thought I should look like. My disorder had detrimental affects on my health, and it wasn't until my doctor advised me to seek help that I acknowledged my condition. Ironically, I was relieved when my doctor recommended that I meet with a psychologist. My greatest adversary had become my own body and I felt determined to defeat my disorder, and no longer allow it to define me.…

The following therapies all share similarities when it comes to assumptions which have been made about them, solution-focused brief therapy, the recovery model, and resilience model. One assumption that is similar between both the resiliency model and focused brief therapy is that they both empower and encourage clients to choose and set their own goals for therapy or the counseling session (Riosalado, 2015). Another similarity among assumptions of the therapies are models consist of the belief that people can overcome challenges (Riosalado, 2015). Both solution-focused therapy and the recovery model share similar assumptions. Those are that they are person driven, and focus on building positive views of the future (Riosalado, 2015).…

I turned off the treadmill and immediately collapsed to the floor, gasping for air. I had just ran my first 5k in a quick 24 minutes, and yet, I felt nothing but disappointment. My sole two motivators in running were my own self hatred, and Kanye West blasting into my ears at a dangerous volume. As I caught my breath, the only words I could think to myself were “Be better”, a phrase that I’ve never heard from anyone but myself.…

As I flipped through the latest “Seventeen” magazine, my eyes centralized solely on the teenage models dressed in tight fitting clothes with the headline saying, “How to Look Hot”. I carefully read the tips on diets and fitness routines that could help me lose weight. My goal was to look as skinny as those girls in the magazine. If I didn’t look like them, I wouldn’t be attractive. I mentally prompted myself to stay clear of carbs and to only eat three meals a day with only snacks with less than hundred calories in between.…

Reflecting back on the course of Interventions II, the coursework and in-residence portion had given me a better insight in learning how to define my personal and professional identity. The implementation of a “mock” clinical therapy sessions during the in-residence portion had been a challenge in the beginning due to the lack of having any type of background in conducting a therapy session. These therapy sessions provided the needed feedback from the instructor and my peers to gain a better understanding my theoretical orientations and areas in which I can work on to become a more competent therapist. The coursework that was provided through this course also assisted in having a better knowledge base for my future practice based on empirically…

My feelings towards therapy quickly changed; all the negatives prior to starting my session became positive. I felt comfortable enough to speak honestly about my feelings without feeling judged. My expectations were validated from this whole process because I seemed more focused on what she would think of me as opposed to how will she help me. From the first 2 sessions I realized that she was here to guide me, and connect me to my emotions and thoughts in a new way. Her wholesome nature of attentively listening was very…
