Monday- 7:45-12:00 Today was exhausting. The kids were hyper after the weekend and the morning procedures took a little longer than usual because we were reminding the students what they need to be doing. I also witnessed in the hall how sweet kids can turn and say something offensive. Our class was lined up in the hall ready to walk into the classroom. Some children were still getting into line from being in the cafeteria. One boy had his head shaved over the weekend. One girl took notice and began laughing, pointing, and calling him weird looking. I was appalled.
This girl normally goes out of her way to compliment other children in line. The boy in question hung his head and didn’t say anything. My mentor did not hear the little girl, but she did go over and compliment his hair cut and

We have one boy in our class that came in only knowing the first letter in his name. Therefore, we have been working on recognizing other letters with him. I was at one literacy center conducting an alphabet bingo game. The boy that struggles was working hard at finding the letters and he was succeeding. When I pulled the letter Y to find he tried to give up.
The girl beside him asked me if she could show him where it is on his bingo card. I told her that we are going to let him find it. I kept encouraging him and he began looking again. Then he found it and we cheered for him. His face lit up in the biggest smile I have seen from him. The rest of my time at Andrew Johnson he continued pointing out the letter Y whenever he would see it. I also thought it was sweet that he told me that he loved me before he went to lunch. Today let me see how much encouragement can go with children. We can’t expect children to inherently know what a letter looks like or that they enjoy looking for letters that have no meaning to them. Children need encouragement. It helps their self-esteem grow and it will foster a love for

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

In high school my most outstanding example of a time when I set an example as a student leader was my sophomore year in high school. My sophomore year of high school I was brought up to the varsity soccer team, the team that I was on was not extremely hard working and or dedicated. As a sophomore I was afraid to stand up and verbally tell the entire team that we need to step it up, or we are going to have a horrible season, so I decided to make my statement apparent by my actions. First, I started by always being the first one to every practice, putting pressure on my other teammates to do the same, in result everyone started to arrive to practice earlier. The second step I took was difficult since I was one of the youngest players and the…

In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…

Since I wasn't able to visit my eighth graders on our usual schedule (my teaching class had an in-class day to reconnect with each other and learn information for our teaching exam- sad face.) , I felt very happy to go visit my kids today! As I entered Ms. Fentress' room when her AI students were exiting, I realized that these kids are just like high school kids. One boy was jamming out to his music, and even rapped for his classmates. It's always funny to see how their distinct personalities intertwine with one-another to make it a friendly atmosphere.…
