It is really hard to tell whether someone is in a good marriage or a bad marriage. Married couples in the street may look happy and appealing, but behind closed doors, it is really hard to tell. Sure we can listen to what they are going through in their household, but we just ignore it because it is their business. There are not many of stories about what men go through in their marriage; however, there are many of popular stories of what women go through. " Trifles" by Susan Glaspell and "A Doll House" by Henrik Ibsen were plays that helped shed light on what women go through in marriage.…

Nora’s dramatic shift in confidence and character is spurred on by her realization that she does not depend on Torvald on as deep a level as she once thought and that she is able function as an independent woman.…

“...With me you could have been another person.” (3.53) In Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, Christine remarks on the fact that if she had not left Krogstad, his life would be completely different. The quote reflects the recurring theme of the play, which is that a plentitude characters’ lives are affected by single actions. The protagonist of the story, Nora Helmer, makes multiple decisions throughout the play that completely alter the course of her life, but one choice in particular affects her life the most. Nora Helmer’s life is irreversibly changed after she illegally borrows money, as she saves her family from harm, gets in financial and legal trouble, and goes through self discovery.…
