Authority is something we, human beings, have heard about on various topics. We know about authority pertaining to law enforcement, authority within our household, and even authority within the business. The use of authority can make and/or break the barrel of communication between the individuals involved. To begin, authority is defined as “the power to give orders or make decisions: the power or right to direct or control someone or something,” according to merriam-webster.com. When the word authority is mentioned we immediately think of control, obedience, respect, and order. As Christians, we know that we should be obedient and respectful at all times. At all businesses, there is a chain of command that exists. The purpose of the chain of command is to assist the employees with the overall operation to build a successful business, organization, or company. From a Christian perspective, Romans 13:1 New Living Translation (NLT) mentioned, “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority come from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.” God has His own reasoning for places us where we are in life. Some of us may be part of the chain of command and some of us may be just a part of the operational process. There are consequences to all unjust actions. For businesses and their employees who are unjust to their employees there will come a time when legal action may take place. It is not rare that businesses are boycotted by their employees because of their actions. Many of them are sued which also leads to businesses lost of revenue and even result in filing bankruptcy.
