Webquest Reflection Essay

The lesson is made for the students to become food detectives and use all of their five senses to determine what unlabeled foods are what. The lesson starts off with the students watching videos of each of the five senses to understand them better. Once all of the videos are watched, the students assemble in to groups and work on their observations of the different foods through their five senses. After their chart of observations, they have the chance to play a fun and interactive five senses game. I would use this lesson for my kindergarten and/or first grade class, but I am unsure if I would use it for a second grade class. I would spend each day of the week on a different sense through books, activities and videos. On the final day, I would give my students the website of this WebQuest to work on putting all of their senses together. I do not think I would give this WebQuest to a second grade class because I feel it is too easy for them, but the idea of using their observations and teamwork skills can be used in a more useful and challenging activity like …show more content…
I also thought that the richness of process of great because the students do work in small groups so different roles can be assigned and discussed with shared responsibility. The small group also allows the students to hear what their peers may observe that they themselves had not previously. I did, however, dock a point from the scaffolding of process because the students may not have experienced all of the foods that are being observed, or they may not know how to describe something that is bitter versus something that is sour due to their lack in advanced vocabulary.
