Online education (which is also addressed to as web based learning or e-learning), over the last two decades, is becoming popular across all the academic disciplines and more and more universities are offering different courses in this format. Online education can be defined as technology-based learning in which the course contents are delivered electronically and exams administered through online format. The discussion and student engagement is mostly done through social media. Blackboard and D2l are two popular online delivery software that are widely used by universities in the U.S.A. A recent survey by Babson College [1] indicates in Fall 2014, 28% of students in U.S. took a minimum of one online course This is 3.7% higher from the earlier …show more content…
This approach has been built over generations and was proven to be very effective, simply because student with varying intellectual ability and inquisitiveness participate in the act of learning. Their myriad questions helps other learners to develop critical thinking in a real time. Face to face education is critical especially for the impressionable age group (18-24), because it offers a unique avenue to bond with the teacher, empathize with fellow students, and establish comraderies that makes the whole experience worthwhile. It is only in the traditional classroom environment (face to face learning), students can work as a team with complimentary skillset to achieve unique learning objective such as completing a design project. Classroom interaction with peers and teacher in real-time cannot be substituted by pre-recorded lectures posted online and communicated through several emails. Field visits, and classroom demonstration is possible only in face to face learning environment. All the above components make face to face education a cherish-able experience in ones lives, the memories of which will last for entire life
