He once was a target to stereotyping when he had to pitch a $7 million dollar project. Immediately with his thick accent over time he began to notice certain nuances on peoples faces that gave him the im-pression that they assumed he was not educated. The main reason, was because of his accent. But he continued to let his knowledge and intelligence show in his work and presentation. Then their attitude began to change. He still experiences the discriminating, stereotyping, stares, looks, and statements. He has had a plethora of problems in the workplace because of his race. He is nor-mally the only one of two people of color in most meetings that he attends. If he is in civilian clothes or military workout uniform, people never assume he is a leader, let alone an officer. This leadership comes with being a person of color. He claims that it is something that a person of deep culture will continue to live with for the remainder of their life. Just recently my husband’s country suffered severe damage and losses of life from hurri-cane Maria. The island was hit with a category five hurricane (Dominica, 2017). As a result, his childhood home has been destroyed. Everything that he has grew to love and the beautiful land-scape that he has been raised in is destroyed. Despite this horrific tragedy, all his family mem-bers are safe. His mother was rescued and brought to the United States by Brazilian Soldiers and sent to Miami Florida. She then met his sister in Atlanta
