Since the beginning, society have always fought, whether it was for power, property, family, or just for protection. Either people were forced to fight or by their own free will, the weapons had an impact and this book proves that argument. The authors pulled sources from all aspects of warfare, altogether, in addition to their research, studies from other historians were used and actual journals from the era. The argument was persuasive because the weapons symbolized strength and power, the relationship between technology and warfare is innovation. Also, innovation bring about change and change comes with experimenting, for this reason, DeVries and Smith connected the technology with developments into the Medieval society. Medieval Military Technology is effective at teaching, but it also gave in depth view of other elements used to aid in the Middle Ages, such as the horses, the role of religion, and the effects of war on the culture. The aspects of the war and the weaponry is the book’s strength, it’s a publication that arouses military history as a persuasion. Scholar, students, and teachers alike use this as a primary source. Not to mention, it opens up the discussion for a synopsis and further entries. The weakness, some areas were not included due to restricted areas, in particular, Islamic history due to the Muslim engagements with Europe.
