1. The chapter of your Artistic “self” was thought provoking. When I was younger I would always draw very specific things that I had liked at the time, anime, cars, dinosaurs, and etc. I would try my very best to draw the item in question just like it was presented to me, but as I grew older I started not to copy the item but instead asked my self-questions like “How would I draw that?” or “How would use that in my work?”. It was by asking those questions that I started to have my own sense of “self” and that my way of doing things are an extension of me.

2. Choosing a mission for your art is a process that I believe to be very hard for some and just comes naturally for others. The chapter of the same title “Choosing Your Mission” made me remembers a time in school when I did not want to be an artist. Hey Reyna, I completely agree with you, that art is ever changing. Not every culture is going to present or make art the same exact way. For example, the Female Caryatid/Equestrian figurine and the Statute of Marcus Aurelius. They both created two wonderful pieces of artwork, but with two different styles relating to their cultures and beliefs. I think it is good having a variety of different pieces of artwork because it brings diversity and an insight into other cultures.…

I chose the "Now We Can Begin": What's Next? essay written by Crystal Eastman. The purpose of this essay was for the author to write about women’s freedom and show how women were not treated as equals when compared to men. I believe the thesis statement in this article was, “Now they can say what they are really after; and what they are after, in common with all the rest of the struggling world, is freedom” (Eastman). Lay out the structure of the reading to the class, and let the class know if this structure is organized and logical (you may claim that it is not organized – it’s up to you).…

In her 2006 article “The Trouble with (the Term) Art”, Carolyn Dean argues that the using the word “art” for both past visual expressions (particularly nonwestern) does not quite capture the true definition of what these pieces are. This argument is valid, to consider these works as mere entertainment erases a culture’s true history and identity. Dean has a very strong argument for the analysis and retirement of the term “art”, however the ideas surrounding the concept of “art” explain the larger issue as a whole. Carolyn Dean argues that pinning the recent idea of “art” on nonwestern works does not inform one about the culture, but rather condenses that culture into easily defined novelties.…

It’s not a matter of expanding my musical exposure per se, but more of a matter of incorporating more styles and genres of music into my ‘musical diet’ such as more classical music such as that of Mozart rather than just that of Debussy, more specifically his most popular piece Claire de Lune. People are always talking about music, whether it is how it impacts their lives or how they just enjoy certain aspects or styles. However it’s more than just talking about what is my personal taste in music, but what speaks to me about the music, its components, what makes a song, rather than just the beat or the message it’s speaking about. Art has come a long ways from that of painting on a canvas or the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, as time advanced…
