State and Religious responses to wealth accumulation differed through the years 600 B.C.E. to 1500 C.E because religion wanted wealth to be put back into the community, and used for charity. State wanted to safeguard people's rights, grant them fair prices and protect their property. Religion felt that wealth gain was evil, and the only way to cleanse your soul was to give the money back to the community through charity. The State wanted to assist to the public's needs by making the prices fair.
