In Henry Louis Gates essay Forty Acres and a gap in Wealth, Henry determines the causes of such inequalities nowadays and tries to provide ways to reduce them. “We can’t afford to wait any longer to address the causes of persistent poverty among black families”, I agree with this statement because we need to start taking action now because once it starts getting out of hand than who is aware of when it’s going to stop. Poverty has increased dramatically over the past decade in the American society, so if people were to say that it’s totally the black people no one cares about them, that’s the matter with our society, it’s all a bunch of people that just cares regarding themselves. It isn’t only black people, which might be residing in poverty,…

Many poor americans suffer by the terms of owing money to the government and businesses because their income cannot provide adequately for the needs of life. They spend money that is not theres and may not be able to repay it because they work minimum salary jobs or the amount to be payed is too large. Dennis Kucinich display these reasons when he says: “For those barely holding on to middle-class status, the median income for a four-person family is just over $54,000. Yet the average US household with credit card debt owes more than $16,000 to credit card…

Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor and presenter of the documentary Inequality for All, once said “The faith that anyone could move from rags to riches - with enough guts and gumption, hard work and nose to the grindstone - was once at the core of the American Dream. Unfortunately today we know that this is no longer the case in the United States. The gap between the rich and the poor continues to increase as the rich get richer and the poor can’t get out of poverty. Contrary to popular belief this is not due to lack of hard work but due to a lack of opportunity and this has become a huge problem for the United States. Although we can’t have every person in this country be wealthy due to the system of capitalism, it is possible to decrease…
