While college attendance is at an all time high (“College Enrollment and Work Activity of 2016 High School Graduates”), the portion of our population living in the upper class has increased by 50 percent since 1971, and the portion living in the lower class has increased 16 percent in that same time period. The sun shines brightly through the window and with a yawn, I pull myself out of bed to shower. After showering, I walk to my kitchen and pour myself a bowl of cereal. The cereal pitter-patters into the bowl, a calming sound. This morning, the cereal is cheerios with sugar, and while it doesn’t taste amazing, it is not disappointing. The time is now 7:45, and it is time for me to begin my commute. Finally, I say goodbye to my wife and with a hug and a kiss, I begin on my way. As I turn my key in the ignition, the engine of my car roars to life. Subsequently, I shift into reverse and back out of my driveway, beginning my travel to the workplace. In the fall, I commute with my windows rolled down to enjoy the crisp air, and the birds chirping away. Unfortunately, not all of these sounds are so pleasant, I also hear the wind rush by and the tires drone on against the asphalt. However, I love the sights and sounds of my commute. That commute doesn’t last forever, thankfully. At 8:55, I leave the comfort of my vehicle to go into work, and with a hundred soft footsteps, I reach the door and enter. As I approach my cubicle, I hear phones ring and employees talking to one another about everything from their kids’ schoolwork to how poorly the local professional sports team performed last weekend. I sit down at an orderly, clean desk and begin work. I check emails, make any important phone calls and am ready to begin my
