After three very important, time consuming, and fun essays, my English 101 class is officially coming to an end. Before entering this class I had very few English classes under my belt; I skipped just about every high school course they offer. Although I am a junior in high school, and younger than most of my fellow classmates, I walked through the door on the first day of class with full confidence. Like I expected, I learned more from this English class, than I ever could have if I stayed at high school with the rest of my peers. Taking this class was very beneficial, improving my writing skills beyond my expectations. Throughout this semester, I learned many key lessons about writing. Throughout my writing process, I was constantly trying to improve this weakness. My main weakness is lack of details and description. When writing my first few drafts of my observation essay, I kept having a lack of detail. My goal for the observation essay was to show my reader the exact situation I was in, but this became hard as I could not think of how to incorporate more detail. This weakness becomes a problem because I struggle with adding detail in the correct places. I must go through many revisions to find that do not overwhelm the essay and still allow it to flow. I think I can improve this weakness in my future writings by adding a step in my writing process. If I need to add detail, before writing I may include a specific detail as a bullet point within my outline. This will allow me to be prepared to have a strong, supportive detail ready to be placed in my …show more content…
One surface error that I commit more than any other is the misuse of commas. Often, I forget to add one at all. This semester, I repeatedly reviewed the rules for both comma and semi colon use. After this semester, I now understand that a comma must be used after any introductory to a sentence. A comma must also be used if you are going to add two main clauses to a sentence. I you want to use a comma, you must include a FANBOY transition after the comma. If I wish to not use a transitional word I must use a semi colon. To make sure that I do not commit this error any more, I will reread, and review my essay before submitting it while reminding myself of the rules I stated
