Weaknesses Of Industrial Engineering

After doing the SWOT analysis, we have identified the most common weaknesses of industrial engineers in order to get an operations consultant’s job. Therefore, we have elaborated a series of strategies to apply during the four years of the industrial engineering degree, to address each weakness before students graduate and start looking for a job.

-Lack of communication and interpersonal skills: The main reasons we have identified as the cause of this weakness are: the subjects of the current syllabus and the teaching methods.
Although the syllabus is difficult to change, there are some ways to improve communication skills, such as offering a subject related to “Communication skills”, which is currently done by our school, but the content

Teachers will be more like guides, who will encourage teams and show them the right way, as well as, some interesting techniques to generate ideas for troubleshooting, such as Brainstorming, Nominal Group Technique or Delphi [6]. Students, themselves, can improve their teamwork skills joining one of the associations we already talked about while discussing the communication skills’ weakness, or an even funnier solution could be to get enrolled in a sports team [3]. We can also find some cell phone apps that can encourage or facilitate cooperation among students, for instance, “Hightrack’’, “Slack’’, “Inbox’’, “mmmelon’’ and “Trello’’ [7].

-English: There are many different ways to improve the English level of an engineering student. Here we propose two alternatives that can be launched together, one depends only on the students and the other needs the collaboration of the university.
To improve the English level of the students, the UPM offers some courses [8] that may help, but if you really want to have a great English level it is not enough, so it's necessary to assist to extra academic classes to increase your level of English at least until C1 level. It will take a different amount of time depending on each person, but considering the level of English when entering university (supposedly close to B2), in three years maximum, assisting twice a week to an academy you will achieve a
