This popular movie, starring the late Robin Williams is a movie about these students at an all boys preparatory school who are used to the same strict, boring style of teacher and their way of teaching. Getting homework done or being to school on time or sometimes they don’t even have a meal like breakfast, that parent support or getting them to back you up” (A. Brighty, Personal Communication, 10/13/16). This made me think of The Dead Poets Society because Neil in the movie had little to no parent support and what he got from his parents was his dad telling him what to do. I think my teacher is right about this, I think she sees first hand that not many of this kids have parents that will do anything for them and support them in any endeavor they may go through. I think this may have a connection to the behavior they seem to portray in the classroom. If they have a parent at home that doesn’t show them the love and support that a child should have, then they will be less willing to cooperate and care about anything in school. I think in a household where there’s a lack of support, the student will not try as hard because the parent wont care enough to try to keep them on track and give them the encouragement they long for. If no one is going to hold them accountable for themselves and their actions and grades at home, these students wont hold themselves accountable because they don’t know what that is like. I think she is smart and very knowledgeable and it makes me want to talk to more teachers and get more perspectives on this profession so I can better myself and have many different outlooks on the reality of the career path I am taking.
