We use of stereotypes all the time without knowing it. Stereotypes are learned through direct observation from the culture around us and enter our consciousness. In our society talks out loud about egalitarianism, equality and justice as our own values, but at the same time such equality exists only as an ideal. There is still a great unconscious level of prejudice in our society that effect of racial, gender micro-aggression. The overtly biased expresses through our expressions, stance, verbal and nonverbal communication, and eye contact we make. We sometimes cannot control our reaction of our prejudices because we do not even realize that we have them. It is hard to aware how or when we biased others. The biases or prejudice is selected on race, culture, backgrounds, religion, ability, gender, sexual orientation or other identity factors. We all need to recognize and understand stereotypes and biases. Educators can implement teaching tolerance in their classroom to teach and guide children develop the skills to speak up for themselves and others against biased. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect despise of their differences. I have learned that I also stereotype others and have learned that we all have unconscious and hidden biases. We usually only recognize bias in others but not ourselves. We are more aware of it when we have experienced that some people may be biased for or against us based on a stereotype.
