Assignment #3:
Amreen Abdul-Majid

Extremist political organizations are formed when people with extremist views get together and openly share their views on a certain topic or situation. However, the way people respond to these extremist organizations can either put an end to the organization or let the organization keep running. Three citizens and I are responding to how we would respond to extremist political organizations.

Citizen 1 believes that we shouldn't tolerate extremists and extremist political organizations. In the past few years, extremist groups that are formed originate from hatred of a certain ethnicity or religion. Extremist groups promote hate crimes therefore citizen 1 is completely against tolerating such organizations.

He believes this because in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, citizens have the freedom of speech and move. Citizen 3 believes that we are not a liberal democracy if we don't allow people to hold different values and express them regardless of whether they are extremist or not. During the Holocaust, Hitler had trained teachers to teach a specific criculum to children that blamed the War on Jews and made the Aryans the most noble race. Also, citizen 3 believes that if a liberal democratic government collapses because of threats from a few extremists than liberalism should not an ideal ideology to believe …show more content…
I agree with citizen 2 that we are being judgemental if we label certain groups as extremists, however, extremists organizations are solely based on hatred. Hatred is an strong emotion that doesn't require any judgement because hatred sends a clear message to those targeted. Also, I disagree with citizen 2 because most of the times when violence begins it is too late to stop. For over a 100 years, conflict between Israel and Palestine has escalated so fast that when Palestinians became prisoners of their own land their has been no way to stop the Israli’s from outside or inside of the border enclosing Palestinians. I disagree with citizen 3 as well because in a world where we should be living in peace and harmony, extremist groups and values only promote hatred and war. Even if the values of these extremist organizations are not physically violent, the values can damage the mental and emotional well being of a person. An example is when an person is being abused emotionally and verbaly, the damage to the person is much greater because it is being ingrained into the individual’s memories. Physical abuse usually heals itself and leaves scars of survival and strength. When extremist groups want to come into power, they lure people in with their words and emotionally appeal them by making them hear what they want

The organizational structure of a terrorist group determines its strengths and weaknesses and there are two categories of organization; hierarchical and networked. Groups associated with a political activity require a more hierarchical structure in order to coordinate terrorist violence with political action. Terrorist groups using the networked structure, are organized in cells so that the loss of a cell would not compromise the identity, location or actions of other cells or the organization. Hezbollah, Palestine Islamic Jihad, Hamas, and Tamil Tigers are politically motivated and their attacks are focused on their governments. Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, Boko Haram, ISIS and Lashkar E Taiba are all motivated by religion and their targets are…
