Why We Should Get Rid of Standardized Testing Test. The word alone is enough to drive panic into the hearts of students everywhere. While some tests are bigger than others or worth more points, they all tend to elicit the same response of dread. However there is one type of testing above all others that needs to be removed and that is standardized testing. We should remove standardized testing because it costly and expensive, scores are used to reward or punish teachers leading to things like cheating, and are unreliable and have not improved student achievement. Is the Use of Standardized Tests Improving Education in America? Says: Following the passage of NCLB on Jan. 8, 2002, annual state spending on standardized tests rose from $423 million to almost $1.1 billion in 2008 (a 160% increase compared to a 19.22% increase in inflation over the same period), according to the Pew Center on the States. We were all separated into different random classrooms, were given breakfast, and were held there for the rest of the day to complete testing in things like science, math, English, and social studies. The day was long and grueling and it got to the point that everything began to run together. It was all just a blur of dots and random questions that I didn’t have the answers to. We were told on multiple occasions to do our best because we were competing with other schools to be the best. How could I help be the best when many of the questions were things we had never discussed in class, or things that had be taught too long ago for me to remember. I was stressed for the rest of the week and the more tests I took, the less I cared about getting the correct answers. I just wanted to be done. And if you’re wondering, no we did not beat out other
