Standardized testing is such a headache. Standardized testing mainly started to take action in schools in 2001, when George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). Standardized testing is any form of a test that requires all test takers to answer the same question. Standardized testing includes true or false questions, short answer questions, essay questions, or a mix between different types of questions. Standardized testing originated from China, but did not fully take action in America until 2001. Unfortunately, though President Bush may have had marvelous intentions in expanding standardized testing, the fact is that it is a detrimental practice in American schools. Schools should eliminate standardized tests.

Many students may see new information on the test and understand how to do it and now they know how to solve that problem. Students may not understand certain information and after taking the test, they may understand it now. An example of that is, “Tests are an important safeguard for struggling students because publicly reported test scores illuminate the achievement gap between historically underserved students and their more affluent peers”(Layton). Therefore, this shows that tests may help kids learn new information and have high achievement. This also shows people argue that standardized tests help kids learn information and succeed in school. For this reason, opponents believe that standardized tests due strongly help students learn information they have never seen before. However, standardized tests do not help students learn information. If students are having trouble understanding something, they need to go to their teacher and ask for help. Students can ask a friend to help them learn the information so they know how to do it in class or on a test. They do not need a standardized test to help them understand the information. An example showing this is, “Although each president since Lyndon Johnson has implemented some type of education package that included standardized tests and claimed its future success in creating better schools for our nation's children, little evidence exists that children's learning has actually improved because of these tests”(Solley).
