We Should Abolish Daylight Saving Time

Decent Essays
I am writing about Daylight Saving Time, and how we should abolish it. Daylight Saving Time is unnatural, ineffective, and detrimental. Daylight Saving Time gives farmers less time to farm during the day, and gets the cows off of their natural schedule. It is proven that Daylight Saving Time uses more energy, than before when we did not use it. When we set the clocks back, there is an increase of heart attacks and car wrecks, due to reduced sleeping time.

I have read many well supported articles proving that Daylight Saving Time should be withdrawn. Every article I have read about eradicating Daylight Saving Time has proven that it decreases productivity, as a result of the populace got an hour of sleep stolen. It is also verified that,

George Will’s essay is interesting to me because I use energy and fuel every day. It’s also interesting to me because I come from a town that produces coal. I find these arguments very convincing.…

Conceived by Benjamin Franklin over 200 years ago, the idea of Daylight Saving Time had its foundations in energy savings. It was implemented in the United States during both world wars and was later standardized by the Uniform Time Act in 1966. Nowadays, controversy surrounding the subject has supporters claiming that Daylight Savings Time conserves energy otherwise spent on artificial light; promotes outdoor activities in the evening, reduces traffic accidents, and is beneficial for businesses. This paper will present and explore the opposing view that changes in energy usage over the years have made Daylight Savings Time obsolete, as it no longer serves the goal for which it was developed. Actual energy savings are inconclusivein some cases…

Most people think that it helps with safety, less car accidents if there is daylight at the end of the day. However, this “benefit” only comes at the cost of the loss of daylight in the morning. The Monday after daylight savings the rate of car accidents went up by 8%. Daylight saving should be stopped, because its benefits are no longer outweighing the negatives. Some people think that daylight saving was made to help the farmers so they could get up earlier, but this is not true.…

Daylight Saving Time-- created as a way to conserve daylight and save energy is a practice that dates back to the early 1900s. Most countries have adapted to the practice of turning the clocks ahead one hour in the spring, and then turning them back an hour in the fall. Yet, there’s a lack of knowledge of how and why Daylight Saving Time came about, which has caused a lot of debate over whether it should end once and for all. Daylight Saving Time should be abolished as it has no purpose and causes a great deal of confusion and aggravation, as well as having negative effects on our health.…

In the following articles I have weighed both sides of why it would be beneficial to shorten the eight hour work day to six hours standard . In my opinion I believe both articles raise very interesting reasons. The productivitey of workers increase clearly. Some companies in Sweden already have implimented this technique. My only concern is the echonomic cost might not provide families with enough wages for their needs of life and can also cause many health problems.…

In W. H. Auden’s poem “Stop All the Clocks” the speaker’s nihilistic views after the death of his lover are expressed in Stanzas One and Four. In the first stanza, the speaker uses the muffling of sounds as a metaphor for his detachment from reality after his lover’s death. In the fourth stanza, the speaker’s illogical demands to disrupt the natural phenomenoa reveals that the death of his lover devastated him and that the world is no longer meaningful to him. The metaphorical commands in these stanzas reveal that the world after the death of the speaker's loved one is forlorn, dark, and meaningless to him. That the death of the lover causes the speaker to become disconnected and deranged.…

The idea of loss is prevalent in both “Stop all the Clocks” by W.H Auden and “Mirror” by Sylvia Plath. Auden employs the narrative voice of a distraught partner to reveal the travesty of death and the consuming emotions which accompany the devastation of physical a loss, whereas, Plath depicts the symbolic loss of identity through the inevitable process of ageing as told from the narration of a mirror. The initial stanza of Auden’s “Stop all the Clocks” introduces the idea of loss by allowing readers empathize with the grief and sorrow evoked by death. Overwhelmingly consumed by the anguish of grief, Auden’s narrator demands “Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone.”…

How would you feel if the typical school day of all public schools in your city was extended to an extent? In fact, the majority of students, parents, and schools would find this . The mayor of NYC is contemplating lengthening the school day two hours. The significance of this is so that students could get additional homework help from their teachers. I strongly feel that lengthening school days is very unnecessary and would not exhibit any benefits on students, parents and public schools.…

How do I Love to Stop All the Clocks “Stop all the Clocks, Cut off the Telephone” by W.H. Auden and “How do I Love Thee?” by Elizabeth Barrett Browning are both poems that are expressing the author’s love for someone. However, with the aforementioned poems, the poets are in a different point in their experience of love. While Browning is writing for someone in that moment, Auden is writing in mourning for someone. Together, these poems show the power of love through life and after death.…
