To not tolerate is to hate. This is an idea that has become quite popular in our modern day of thinking. If I do not tolerate, it is because I hate or have prejudice. On the opposite side of the spectrum we have that if I love, than I must accept or tolerate every aspect of that person or culture. As tolerance is preached more and more in our western societies, many did not even notice how intolerable of a culture we have become. Let me show you. I do not accept samesex marriage, nor do I tolerate it. If I was to say this in a public place, my listeners would automatically assume that my statement means that I hate homosexuals and I am something along the lines of a bigot. An example of this would be me and mushrooms. Mushrooms do not taste good. They have the rubbery texture of seafood and add little to no flavor to most dishes. However, if I am presented a plate of meat that has some sort of mushroom saute, I will eat the mushrooms along with the meat. I allowed them to occur in my meal. In tolerance, then. is the action of interfering with something’s existence, occurrence, or practice. I show little tolerance to my siblings if I ever smell their body odor
(especially after a visit to the gym). I will definitely make a comment to somehow prevent the practice of giving their armpits freedom from deodorant. Although these are rather simple examples of tolerance and intolerance, they show how the motivation is not always driven by not just hate by doesn’t even have to be driven by beliefs at all.
But what about some more ethical issues? Aside from obvious dangers to society like crime, there are a number of things most people do not tolerate. Take bullying for example.

We are automatically called homophobic, bigots, and are assumed to want to go on a crusade putting all homosexuals into internment camp. This actions tend to describe an extremist like scenario, but it is illogical and downright wrong to assume that all those opposed to samesex marriage are extremists. Though such people exist, their actions and “demonstrations” more often than not skew and misrepresent the belief of the majority of the group (remember the rioting protesters). Yet our culture is heading down the path to showing us that any who oppose samesex marriage are chauvinistic, irrational homophobes. The word Chauvinist means one who is overzealous or patriotic in an aggressive way. But recent events show us that even when people who oppose samesex marriage do so in a calm, rational way they are treated in chauvinistic way. Take for example the fiasco in CO with Jack Phillips of
Masterpiece Cake Shop in CO refused a gay couple to bake a cake for their wedding reception. Phillips said he’d be fine baking a birthday cake for them, or some
