The Space Shuttle has been grounded. This has led some people to believe that manned space exploration has ended. I do not believe this is true. I believe that the commercial sector needs to take the reins to further advance the field of space exploration. Engineers will play a key role in this endeavor. This is especially true if we plan to probe even deeper into the last frontier.
The government has done its job and I believe it was time for NASA to step down. NASA did an excellent job getting the ball rolling and now the time for the commercial sector to step up has come. Generally, commercially-run endeavors are more effective than those run by the government (e.g. U.S. mail versus UPS). I believe that once the commercial sector takes off it will be even more successful than the government was in the past. …show more content…
Engineers will need to be at the leading edge to ensure safety and efficaciousness. Engineers are going to know the most about how the machines operate and the physics behind it; therefore, engineers will be required to make numerous important decisions involving equipment operation, mission practicality, dangers, and many other factors. They will have to ensure that all policies are followed to the T, and that no corners are cut.
I feel that exploring further into the vast unknown will help to further expand our understanding of the universe, but it will also present further questions for the next generation of brilliant minds to answer. I do not believe that we should stop at just more moon missions or a manned trip to Mars; however, we should continue to push the envelope. “The sky is the limit”, but there is no limit to the
