A great ending to the story was when McBride is at school waiting for his mother to pick him up but she never arrives. McBride then begins to panic because as a young lost boy, who cant find his mother is a big deal. McBride writes “ They were a motley crew of girls and boys, ragged, with wild hairdos and unkempt jackets, hooting and making noises … I recognized their faces of my elder siblings and collapsed in tears as they gathered around me, laughing.” (McBride 110). This powerful ending shows the unconditional love of the family. As McBride says “Motley Crew”, which motley means a jester; and shows that the family was poor. The children were his elder siblings dressed in colorful clothing and that shows that it doesn’t matter how they dress or look they are still a family and the fact that the siblings went there way to find their brother.
