Most people think of small animals, such as sheep, as meek and submissive due to their frequent portrayal as innocent characters in children’s stories and folklore; in these same stories, antagonistic characters tend to be fiercer animals such as lions or wolves. However, the children’s movie Zootopia shows that this is not always the case. The characters in this film break the stereotypes that the audience have against them by being different from what is conventional. For instance, the "dumb bunny" Judy Hopps solves the case of the savage predators, and Nick Wilde turns from a sly con artist to the first fox cop. This includes a sheep by the name of Dawn Bellwether, who is the assistant mayor and mayor of Zootopia.…

For the purpose of this film critique, the barrel model and visual anthropology were used to aid in the comparisons of two movies that are decades apart. Both films were based on the novel “Cheaper by the Dozen”, but the two films are vastly different. The method I used to blend these two anthropological frames of reference was to fill out a few questions that relate with the films corresponding layer of the Barrel Model (Harris). This allowed me to analyze the films in depth, which challenged my understanding of anthropology. The main questions from each layer of the barrel model are used to further open the dialogue and grasp the true nature of what the audiences were expected to take away from the films.…

Director, Darren Aronofsky, transforms the biblical story of Noah’s Arc into a dark, chilling story of undeniable faith, great ambition, and tells a tale of horrifying terrors implemented on a human-invested world by an almighty God. Many have grown up hearing the traditional story of how God ordered a man and his family to build a large arc, so that they, along with two of every animal in the world, would survive a world cleansing flood. The image of a happy, Christian family floating on water with cute animals for forty days and forty nights is interpreted much differently in this blockbuster film. This dramatic movie received a review with a score of 6.6 out of a possible 10.0 by Flixster, Inc.’s popular film review website, Rotten Tomatoes.…
