His development into a good leader was fueled by his improving interpersonal skills. Though in the beginning of the movie Dedmon avoided conflict by aiming to please each member of a team, he improved his conflict resolution techniques which positively impacted his emotional intelligence. Dedmon couldn’t trust his team because his job was in jeopardy. When Dedmon finally addressed Paul, the father of a former football player who passed away and member of the governors’ board, he overcame his fear of conflict. Paul had fired Dedmon referring to him as a “Band-Aid, a temporary solution.”(McG, 2006) Instead of lashing out at Paul, Dedmon responded by acknowledging that Paul was acting out of grief and his firing was not because of anything he did. This act showed great emotional intelligence. Though Dedmon was fired he continued to act as a leader and support the Marshall Football

Coach Carter, this movie changed my life and opened my eyes into the macro perspective in how the film displays positive and negative changes in social and technological changes. I will convey how Coach Carter transformed many uneducated, poor, unpassionate high school basketball losers into not only winners, but passionate educated men of society. Coach Carter takes over as head basketball coach at Richmond high school, where he graduated and was the all-time leading scorer and assist maker. His motivational speech at Gettysburg also inspires harmony amongst the players. Second, the school and community must accept diversity. The football players stand up for each other both at home and in the community to make a positive example. This is demonstrated in a plethora of ways such as Coach Yoast giving up his hall of fame nomination for a fair game, Gerry choosing his values over his girlfriend, and by the boys breaking up racial tension fights at school.…
