Graduation Speech: We Are Responsible For Civil Rights

We are responsible for the rules we have set up and for what is and isn’t in, for determining who is and isn’t accepted. We are also responsible for forcing others to adhere to them. Whether by loud or quiet means, we’ve stated that a lack of adherence is countered with relentless hatred. We are equally responsible for whether or not we follow those rules. Yet we are free to obey and disobey these laws. We are responsible for the outcome of the choice to follow or not follow the laws in which we’ve created. This is a responsibility we cannot relinquish to others. Because of that we cannot be considered victims to our circumstances or these laws. That’s too easy of a way out. We are not victims.

Are we okay with this? All these expectations

We didn’t understand gender, race, or class binaries. Were we ignorant or just unaware of the real world? But someone told us about these binaries, someone told us how to treat those of higher or lower class, of color, of a different sex or gender. Someone said it and we listened, identifying it as trustworthy and accurate. But when we see people being shot and killed because of these boxes someone told us to make and label, are these things we’ve come to learn still accurate? Should all gays be killed because their sexual preferences don’t align with our own? Since when was there an absolute rule, a black and white for any way to live our lives? Who established it? We did and we continue to accept it the more we refuse to question these binaries. But that isn’t going to sit well. We have to open our eyes again the way we did when we were younger. When our greatest wonder was smiling at those faces that reciprocated our love. Not a time when we were clueless but a time when we embodied the essence of our human nature. A time we recognized others as fellow humans before slurs and derogatory language. A time when we only saw ourselves in

After coming a long distance from Richmond, Virginia to Washington D.C, my destination was reached. Just by gazing at the deep-rooted bricks and the old cream-colored columns, I knew this was the right place to be. Strolling into the revived Ford’s Theatre and looking at the waxed mannequins it feels like you are travelling back into the 1860’s. I was already amazed by observing all of the various artifacts and depictions and trying to figure out which attraction would interest me the most to record. Since Ford’s Theatre is a very popular site and has many fascinating facts behind it, The assassination of Abraham Lincoln was the most impressive exhibit to me.…

What is the capacity in which things that are not under your control can affect the amount of moral responsibility that you face? For this topic, there are generally three main views that claim to answer this question, and they are each rather simple; first, there are those that think that people are only blameworthy for things that are under their control. Second, there are those who think that people are blameworthy for things that are not under their control, and lastly, there are those that restrict the second view, such that they can compromise between both views. In this paper, I will discuss the first two views only, providing arguments for the second view as well as possible counterarguments from those that think the first view is correct.…

In “The meaning of King Holiday” Dr. King’s wife, says that MLK day should be a day of service. “What she means by that is how can others others serve after graduating and entering the “adult” world?” Well like MLK he didn't know what to do with his life after graduating and yet after his lifetime all races have equal rights. I am not saying everyone within their lifetime will make that huge of a change in the world. Even doing the little stuff will help change the world in some sort of way.…

This dream that MLK Jr. had was so idealistic and revolutionary that it helped change the way that many people look at race in the world today. He helped sway the minds of millions to act and get rid of racism in America with simple but meaningful words to guide them on this amazing journey to freedom.…

Pete Hegseth once said “ Memorial Day isn't just about honoring veterans, its honoring those who lost their lives. Veterans had the fortune of coming home. For us, that's a reminder of when we come home we still have a responsibility to serve. It's a continuation of service that honors our country and those who fell defending it.” It is important to defend your beliefs because positive statements rather than negative statements about others will be most effective.…

Desiring Superiority Throughout history many examples have been shown of demolishing others to gain that desired feeling of being superior. In Margaret Atwood’s interview with Bill Moyer she hits the nail of scapegoating right on the head. Adolf Hitler blamed the Jews, the KKK blamed African-Americans, and when terrorism strikes the first blame is always placed on the Middle Easterns. Instead of acknowledging the issues people find it much easier to blame other groups for the problem instead.…

We have also agreed on punishments or responses when a person breaks one or more of the laws. If we, as a society agree in punishment for breaking laws, then we, as a society must believe in free will. Humans must have free will or we are punishing people for actions for which they had no control. There cannot be moral responsibility if everything is determined, as the responsibility would not fall on the human, but rather the force that made the predetermination.…

Greetings, Class of 2023. Today, we get to celebrate the culmination of our thirteen years of hard work in school with graduation, and I have been asked to deliver this year’s commencement speech. I would like to thank all of the people that have brought us here: family members, teachers, principals, and people who would go out of their way to encourage us to keep trying hard even in the midst of failure. Without you, we would not be standing on this stage today. I would like to start by defining the word “commencement.”…
