One company that I previously interned for and would be interested in pursuing a career at is WGBH, a radio and television facility located in the Brighton suburb of Boston, Massachusetts. The first thing I wanted to know is what the call letters WGBH stand for. After some research I discovered that the “W” – indicates that the station is located east of the Mississippi River (a “K” is used for stations to the west) and “GBH” - stands for Great Blue Hill (named for the blue hue of the granite found there) which is located within the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton and Canton, Massachusetts. It is the highest point in the area and was the site of the station’s first transmitter.

It began in 1972 when WGBH produced one of the nation’s best loved children’s television shows called ZOOM. The aim was children between the ages of 7 and 12 and its claim to fame was that it was a show created by children for children. Viewers could send in ideas for shows and local children served as the cast. WGBH went on to produce many other children’s programs such as Design Squad and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego but it is their animated shows that really interest me. Between the Lions was a favorite and I grew up watching Arthur. Using the powerful medium of animation, the Arthur books are brought to life and the show teaches many life lessons. It is now the longest running animated children’s television series in history. I was lucky enough to intern on FETCH! With Ruff Rufferman. It was fascinating to see how WGBH creates these shows and the amount of staff and time it takes for each episode. The goal throughout is education through entertainment.
WGBH’s growth over the years encompassed twelve buildings in the Cambridge and Allston neighborhoods. When Harvard University ended a long time lease with the company, the decision was made to consolidate and build a new facility in a section of Brighton which was being revitalized after New Balance choose it for its new headquarters. The building, completed in 2006, opened up more studios

To this day you can still see the remains of the burned buildings and trees. Many locals take great pride in trying to preserve Bulow, as it is a big part of Florida’s history Many studies have proven what we already believe to be true about Bulow and its history. Preterm birth (<37weeks gestation) accounts for about 12% of all live-births in the US.1 Although more premature infants may be surviving due to improved obstetrics and neonatal care, they can suffer from complications including peri-intraventricular hemorrhage (PIVH). The incidence of PIVH among infants with birth weight of less than 1500g is 15-20%2,3 rising to approximately 50% in those with birthweight less than 750g.
