Thanks for another great week of teaching and learning at WBECHS. As we continue in this awesome opportunity of educating children we want to remind you to take time for yourself. We recommend creating a self-care action plan to ensure you are not becoming burnout. If the leader of instruction in the classroom is burnout the students in the classroom will suffer greatly. I believe, that as a caregiver, you have the opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life by how you guide them. Guiding children can happen in many ways; in how we direct the child throughout the day, encourage them, aid in decision-making, and in how we model healthy and safe choices. In these the caregiver must be consistent and act as is appropriate given the child's development. Another key concept that I feel was touch upon during my interview with Dr. Fritz was in regards to stress and burnout. Stress being the “physical and psychological responses to overwhelming stimuli” and burnout referring to a combination of “exhaustion, depersonalization, and a reduced sense of personal accomplishment” (p. 94) During my interview I asked Dr. Fritz how she goes about taking time for herself, and what the best ways healthcare providers could unwind when they find their job taking a toll on them. One strategy that could be used to promote the theory of caring, could be when a nursing leader takes on using the theory themselves. According to Beck, Jakobsson and Edberg (2014), when a nursing leader understands and implements the theory of caring first, then nursing staff will start to follow them. The study done by Lamke, Catlin, and Mason-Chadd, (2014) stated, if a leader provided tools to increase the nurses personal wellbeing then the patients that they cared for resulted in a health increase in return. This study was preformed over a four-month period, in which training of how to increase self-care was included. The things reviewed that in this study were the following positive areas: positive outlook, gratefulness, motivation, calmness,…

Nursing, from the perspective of a first-year nursing student, is a profession that is underestimated. Nurses are the backbone of all health care facilities; without them, quality of care would greatly decrease. Through the influence of maternal figures in my family, along with an inherent interest in health care and a strong desire to care for others, I was drawn to the profession of nursing. However, a nurse requires more than merely an interest and the desire to care for others. During my first few months as a nursing student, my understanding of nursing, or lack thereof has come to light.…
