Many of the new shows added like Kirk did not meet and were unable to gain viewing interest, so WB Kids was launched. Prior to network launch, WB network was created from the reaction from the success of Fox network.

Former Fox executives Jamie Kellner and Garth Ancier were appointed to run the new network. During 2004-05 seasons, WB started falling behind in the fall of 2005 due to audience viewings decreasing. WB aired final night of programming on Sept. 17, 2006 with The Night of Favorites and Farewells; a 5 hour block of pilot episodes from past signature series. WB officially shut down on Sept. 17, 2006 when it merged with The UPN and became The CW the very next day. Their scheduling structure was similar to Fox’s when it first launched; started with one a week of programming progressively adding additional nights of programming over the course of several seasons. From 1995-1997 the network’s first programs were mostly sitcoms targeted at the African American audience and families overall. With 3 hit shows on its list, WB extended to build its fan base with college drama felicity and Charmed. Both shows set new records in their premiers to 7.1 and 7.7 million viewers. In the start of 1998 season the network expanded its programming to Thursday nights. The show’s episodes attracted 12.5 million viewers by February 8,1999. By 2000 season the network concluded its primetime expansion with the addition of Friday night programming, the WB was the only network to have gains in its total audience viewership and in each key demographic. In the late 1990’s the teen boom began to die down causing Popular and Roswell to being cancel, two shows that premiered with strong ratings. As for 7th heaven, Buffy and Charmed remained with consistent ratings other shows like Felicity and Dawson’s Creek began to see a decrease in ratings.
