Wayzata Personal Statement

Improved Essays
I consider myself very fortunate to be part of Wayzata high school. My high school, Wayzata High School, has offered me a variety of clubs to be a part of, an array of advance classes to take, and a great place to meet friends who share my interests. These opportunities have opened up my worldview and given me aspirations which were otherwise might not have been possible for me. Day to day, I see students from diverse backgrounds with different socioeconomic statuses grow together both socially as well as academically. The atmosphere around me at school has fostered a love for learning and advancement that I normally would never have considered. Although my high school years are mostly defined through academic success, I would have to say my most meaningful achievements came through the North Carolina FFA. This national organization provides me with countless opportunities to showcase my leadership abilities in my school, community, and state. Obtaining the positions of Vice President and President of my high school FFA chapter has had an enormous impact on my life. These positions led to serving on nominating committees, planning community events, attending leadership conventions and conferences, and participating in a state-qualifying parliamentary procedure team. It was these experiences that gave me a passion for public speaking and Agribusiness.…

My first memory at North Carolina Governor’s School West is of crying next to my parents on a bench under a giant tree. It was move-in day for the five-and-a-half-week session, and I was already sure that they would be the worst weeks of my life. I was terrified; I knew no one except two students from my high school, who were rising juniors and to whom I had never spoken before. After that stressful first day, I fell asleep unsure of how I could make it on my own in a place filled with such talented, intelligent, and unfamiliar people. A week later, I knew that Governor’s School would be one of the most treasured experiences of my entire life.…

I was a member of the K-5 cheering team from the time I was in kindergarten to the time I was in fourth grade. The peers I had when I attended are still a big part of my life. Even if we’re not the closest of friends, I still feel an unbreakable bond with those kids that I shared tears and laughter with for nine years straight. Graduating the eighth grade was tough for me, I didn’t know how I was supposed to leave behind the place where I had grown up for the majority of my life. That school was comfort to me, it was a safe place where I knew I would be respected.…

My community is small and we all grow up together, all the children went to the same school and everyone had a great connection. I learn to have a connection with the people in my school like no other, we all more up together. In addition, I went with the same peers for most of my education career and it may not be traditional but it was a chance to know my peers in a deeper level. I learn that everyone has something they carry no matter if you think you have someone all figure out.…

A place that I find inspiring is my own high school, East Mecklenburg High School, commonly known as East Meck. When I was in elementary school, East Meck held a terrible reputation for drugs, weapons, and other things of the sort, which made me believe that East Meck was not the right place for me. Fast forward to middle school, I was accepted into the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. This was great news except for the fact that my middle school fed directly into East Meck’s IB program.…

(1). Although I may not have the strongest GPA among my peers, I consider myself to be an active member in my community. Compared to my affluent friends in college, I was born and raised in a low-income community on the East Side of San Jose. Additionally, my family 's social-economical background placed us at a disadvantage due to the fact in which my parents were not able to afford to pay for certain academic luxuries that my peers have had (private tutors, extracurricular academic activities, summer science camps, etc). However, I was fortunate to have been placed in charter schools for the most part of my K-12 education.…

My high school experience has allowed me to be a part of the band, choir, theatre, and Spanish programs. These experiences have all shown me unique aspects of my life and the lives of those around me. Because I was homeschooled until ninth grade, I never got a real chance to be a part of the community like I did when I became a freshman. Throughout my high school career, I have learned many things like music, Spanish, and how to treat other people. At Vicksburg High School, all three of these things go hand in hand.…

A new journey in my life began on August 13th, 2014 as my school principal cut the red ribbon celebrating the opening of a brand new high school. Little did I know, it would become a journey of growth and unique experiences unlike any before it, further refining and adding to my inner sculpture of identity and talent. I was going to Liberty High School, therefore it was necessary that I adapt--quickly, yet strategically. Throughout my life, I had never imagined that my high school experience would reach and exceed my expectations in the way that it did. I had the unique opportunity most people don’t get in life: to be part of a grassroots movement in establishing a culture that would enrich future students with tradition and values for many years to come.…

A host of “outsiders” have been my passport to educational opportunities that are otherwise rarely discussed. I am deeply appreciative of the knowledge and understanding of what is possible they have given me. While my family has little time to explore Maine’s trails, living on less than $16K/year, I normally trek everywhere, just not in as beautiful settings. In camps people from any and everywhere join our campfire meals. Frequently populated with college aspirants and graduates who paint glowing pictures of their alma maters and how their education translated into future success are the most interesting to me.…

Attending George Washington Elementary School were challenging and rewarding years. My years in this school help me improve in my academics, especially in my English. As a kid, I had a struggle learning English because I was a Spanish speaker. During my first years in school my grades showed the difficulties I was passing through. Thanks to Ms.Garcia my fourth grade teacher who noticed and helped me by providing tutoring after school mostly throughout the entire school year.…

A moment when I personally connected with Ceiba’s mission was when I received my first honor roll award my freshman year. As a minority and young women of color, I never thought I could achieve this, but when I did I felt accomplished and inspired. It was the first time I felt I had the potential to go to college. Having previously been in a school where there was a lot of negativity, I was discouraged to even go to school, but when I started my educational career at Ceiba, I felt I belonged, even from day one. I could not have ever received and honor roll award in my life had I not been at Ceiba.…
