In forensic science, there are multiple things that can point someone as a criminal. In the case of Wayne Williams and the Atlanta Child Murders, hair and fibers were used to convict Wayne Williams. A single hair can contain multiple things that can point a individual to a crime. Hair has certain characteristics that can pinpoint to whom the hair belongs to. Hair of a human will be much thinner compared to animal hair. Hair that is curly or darkly pigmented can be of a African American being. Fibers are of those left behind of a clothing or carpet of some sort. Fibers can determine where an individual has been based upon the fibers on their beings.
Hair and fiber evidence are trace evidence that tied Williams to the murders. If hairs are found at the scene, scientist can test them to find DNA or find a way to point someone to the crime. This pertains to the Wayne Williams case due to the fibers and hairs found on the bodies of the victims. When asked for his number, Wayne provided a false number to the officer. Two days later a victim was found in the river of the area. When police finally got in contact with Wayne, they ran a lie detector test. Williams failed this test multiple times, not only this; but police found a book on how to ‘beat’ a polygraph in his house when it was searched, (Wayne Bertram Williams P.5). Along with him having this book, colleagues of Williams stated he had been seen with multiple scratches around the times of the murders, this allowed police to arrest
