Wayne State University Nudge

1. One nudge, implemented by Wayne State University is the new attendance policy. It started last year, during the new semester for the first two classes, attendance is mandatory. If students missed both days, they would automatically be withdrawn from the class. This nudge was created to encourage students to attend class. I think the main goal of the nudge is to try to make students attend class for the first few days and then for the rest of the semester. This nudge also helps the student, if they do not attend class and withdrawn, they will not have to pay tuition for that class. 2. One nudge, I see the Mike Ilitch School of Business implement is they send emails out to all business students about internship, networking, and job opportunities. A better nudge to get students to be more involved is to have some sort of punch card system. Students go to an event and at the end of the event, they get a punch card proving that they went. If students go to 10 events every semester they will receive a gift card to a place on campus. This nudge makes students more interactive with events on campus. The nudge will be explained in an email and every time a student attends an event they will mention it. this way, if a student did not see the email about the nudge they will hear about if they do happen to attend an event. For events that do not want to do punch cards, they can still offer incentives to get students to attend. With incentives, like free Wayne State gear, students are more likely to go to get the free items and stay for the whole event. I know any event that says, “free food” or “get a free Wayne State t-shirt”, I am more likely to go and bring friends. I am more likely to go because I am already interested in the information they are providing but the incentives give me that extra push to go and
