A Communities Hero Many around the world see our fellow celebrities and athletes as an inspiration to us all. The way they give back to the community and most of all, helping others in need by staring foundations and taking part in fundraisers and charities. A man know as “The Great One’ by many people goes by the name of Wayne Gretzky. When the topic of Wayne Gretzky appears people focus on his accomplishments in the game of Hockey but don’t look at what he has done for his community and the communities around him. He has taken part in countless donations, charities and fundraisers, but his biggest strive was creating his own foundation called the “Gretzky Hockey School” and how he can accomplish giving back to the community.

Gretzky to all is a mentor and a friend according to many people around the world, Gretzky is true character and player of the game, with his donations and actions he has helped over 200 charities raising thousands of money for charities such as “adoption, fostering, orphans, disadvantage youths , blood donations, organ …show more content…
This played a huge part in Wayne’s attributes towards helping others, this gave Gretzky the idea of starting his own foundation for underprivileged and disadvantaged youth to play the game of hockey. With his earnings from the NHL and his retirement money he was able to secure enough money to start his own program. His mission is to provide less fortunate youth with the opportunity to play the sport of hockey. “Gretzky's goal is to accomplished through the donation of hockey equipment and ice time, as well as providing the opportunity for young people to attend professional hockey games.
