Capt. Blaine Budd told the county commissioners Wednesday the office has received the funding for years, and the grant is for a total of $75,500, which includes the Sheriff’s Office in-kind local match of nearly $18,900.
A component of this grant will be to reach out to those who are underserved, Budd said. So, the Sheriff’s Office will be working with the Amish community. Part of this outreach effort will include informing those in the community about what resources are available for follow-up.

County Administrator Patrick Herron explained the resolution was just a “procedural thing.” OPERS is going through an audit, and it asked the county to provide a resolution indicating it would pick up the retirement contributions. Herron said the original resolution would have likely been approved in the 1980s, but OPERS could not find a copy of it in its records.
The commissioners also approved a $1,500 amendment to its contract with Schooley Caldwell Associates, the architectural firm hired for the Wayne County Courthouse exterior restoration project.
The additional amount will pay for a physical set of as-built drawings from the project from the general contractor and all subcontractors and a digital copy of the as-built drawings.
“So, whether (someone needs the drawings) next year or in 50 years, there will be one set of drawings,” Herron said.
