First, reading your book has helped me come up with creative ideas whether it be simple day-to-day things or vast and complex ideas. Second, it also challenges me to build a better world and environment to live in. In this book, it has shown many evil deeds done because of greed, jealousy, and many negative emotions. Even though this is a parallel world, many actions often coincide with what happened in history, and even what is still happening up till this date. It has shown that many people of this world are not as privileged as me. For example, certain people in this book are slaves and are often mistreated. Even today in our world, there are many slaves that people do not know about. In The Way of Kings, Kaladin desperately joined the front line of battle to protect his younger brother, who was drafted into the army against his will. Through many hardships, he still continued with an unfaltering will. Can you imagine our world destroyed to its bare core? Can you think of ways and reasons why society would allow the world to fall into apocalyptic times? Much more like the famous quote by Albert Einstein, “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones” (22). In the book The Road by Cormac McCarthy, the reader is placed in the aftermath of a catastrophic war that left the world in ruins such as in an apocalyptic manner. To say that I am a reader would be a stretch. I can not remember the last time I picked up a book for my own personal pleasure. Instead, I would say that I agree with what a good book should do, but I can‘t say I have found a good book, or a page turner if you will.…

Martin Luther King Jr’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” responds to the eight clergymen’s letter condemning his nonviolent demonstrations, labeling him as an extremist. King’s usage of allusions, antithesis, and analogy to build his credibility and appeal to the emotions of his moderate audience justify his extremist actions and persuades the reader to act against injustices. King addresses the clergymen’s accusation of King’s “extreme measures” by creating analogies to justify his actions. He concedes that he is an extremist; however, he argues that extremism itself isn’t intrinsically violent. King compares himself to biblical and historical figures, creating this connection that they are all extremists: “ I was… being categorized as an extremist… ‘Was not Jesus an extremist for love?’”(230).…

The Dream of the Rood The Dream of the Rood is an Old English, allegorical retelling of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ from a different point of view. Many seem to think this poem is only told from the point of view of the cross that Jesus was crucified on, but an additional interpretation is that this story is told seemingly through the point of view of a normal man, but in all actuality it is the retelling of the vision that Jesus had before he was arrested and his acceptance of his duty to be sacrificed for the forgiveness of sinners. There are three sections of The Dream of the Rood.…
