When I came to America the first thing I noticed was that everything was just a lot bigger than in Germany, like all the supermarkets, streets and the school. Also there were more people. My school in Germany has 1500 students from fifth to twelfth grade (the German school system works a little differently) and in Waukee there were 1500 students only from tenth to twelfth grade. Another thing I realised is that Americans are way more sociable than Germans. Many of you have like a huge driveway and front yard to hang out with neighbors. We don’t have that. Also strangers could just start talking to you and it was normal, but it is a weird thing to do here and I was pretty surprised when random people started talking to me about any …show more content…
I learned to be more sociable and get involved into more extra curricular activities. Waukee also showed me how fun it is to show some team spirit! (We are not that cheerful in Germany :( )
What is the best memory?
I don’t think that there is just one best memory, because at the end I like to remember all things I did during my stay, even things that seemed boring to me like riding the bus. I guess I especially like memories of places where I met cool people.
What was your favorite part? My favorite part about my exchange year was meeting new people and getting to know the American way of life! I really enjoyed going to High School and liked all my classes and teachers. The classes at Waukee were funnier and you get to know your teachers! One of my favorite classes at Waukee was Theater Arts but at the end I really enjoyed all of them. I also enjoyed the Internationals Club I was part of and I think that it is great that people are so interested in other countries, which proves the stereotype that Americans only care about America wrong.
