The experience I chose to use in my essay was my interaction with Wattpad and how it affected my writing. I focused not only on the functionality on the app and how I used it to enhance my writing abilities but also on the components that enabled it develop the many different communities that it possess. I used this interaction for my literary narrative because I felt as though it could effectively relate it back to a specific article in Porter's essay that had stuck out to me in the initial reading. This quote stated how he would use communities for conversations on rhetoric of design and delivery and for developing social rhetoric. I quoted this passage from his essay to help show the connection on why community is beneficially for his writing

The first day of English 101 I was unsure what to expect. As a running start student, college was foreign and daunting. Over the quarter, this definitely changed as I became more comfortable with the college environment and assignments. My worries for this class quickly dissipated over the first week or so once I knew it wasn’t that drastic a change. After receiving the assignment calendar, I felt ready for the classwork.…

The biggest influence on me as a writer was the introduction to National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo. NaNoWriMo is a worldwide phenomenon based out of California. The basic idea is to give writers a chance to stretch themselves by challenging them to write fifty-thousand words in one month. As November approaches each year, novelists prepare to be antisocial and concentrate their brain power on hammering out a novel. From my first introduction to NaNoWriMo in 2013, I have participated twice and have yet to reach 50k.…

Literature may be where to some people they do it because they have to or because they have to do it for a grade, I know that I want to consider it as a lesson and a bit of a wake call, letting me know that students don’t have to settle for average when it comes to literacy, but better to excel beyond average to reach the highest peak of knowledge over literacy. Not only I want to learn more but to experience with the knowledge about sponsors and discourse communities, the role of what can be accomplished with the understanding of these two topics. Knowing the roles can really help me not only develop, but as well become a better writer, reader and individual as I begin my collegiate journey at A&M commerce, as each day goes by I will go for the challenges and strive to be the best at my very…

When it comes to understanding yourself and your personality on a deeper level than normally, you must take personal stories into perspective that have shaped your life while growing up. According to McAdams, “defining oneself through a personal story is an act of psychological and social responsibility” (Engler 2009). Psychological and social responsibility relate to how you act onto actions around you and how you tie society into your viewpoint of the world. In other words, explaining yourself through a story can show several things such as how your emotions played an affect, the type of response you displayed to something that happened, and as well as the lessons you learned through a personal but also social aspect. In addition, McAdams…

The writings I’ve worked on for the Research Problem have helped me towards achieving course learning outcome number 2: "Produce an extended writing project that uses research methods and research genres to explore a topic applicable to the course and that draws substantively on concepts from primary and/or secondary sources." From Beaufort, I learned that limiting your writing to one discourse community produces writers who are ill-prepared, highly demotivated and incompetent “products” (Beaufort 7). Hence, I had to learn subject matter knowledge, genre knowledge, rhetorical knowledge and the writing process knowledge concerning my professional field. By acquiring this knowledge, I was able to begin my becoming as a competent writer. From Johns and Swales, I learned what the term “discourse community” means.…

I attended numerous ISPT meetings throughout Fayette, Greene, and Alleghany counties. ISPT stand for Interagency Service Planning Team. During these meetings, the Treatment Coordinator would talk about the child’s Plan of Care, whether or not the child has been doing well in the treatment home and at school, and the parents would discuss any of their concerns.…

Writing has been my talent since grade school; I couldn’t sing, or dance but I could write, or so I thought. Then, I entered high school and realized that writing required a lot more than it did in middle school. The brisk pace and advanced comprehension skills required for my English three AP course caused my grades to suffer. I have struggled with college level essay writing tremendously, but through hard-work I have been able to write with more ease and finesse than ever before.…

I wasn’t overly excited about taking English 102 this semester and often felt overwhelmed by the writing assignments. As a writer, I find it very difficult to express my thoughts and feelings on paper. However, over the last several months, I can see how the progress in my writing style has changed. With the knowledge of research and analyzing, the overall structure of arranging details and facts within my assignments have developed throughout this course. I believe using evidence to create specific ideas, and my own personal interest in fantasy football, has been the elements that’s helped the most in changing my ability to write more effectively.…
