Problem Statement
Water sanitation and hygiene is still a burning issue in the context of developing countries like Nepal as many disease related to it are causing the maximum number of death.
In Nepal as only 27 percent of the population has access to basic sanitation, those without access rely on local surface water sources like rivers for bathing and washing clothes. Nepal faces a high number of water-borne diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid, gastroenteritis and cholera.
According to the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage in Nepal, even though an estimated 80% of the total population has access to drinking water, but that is not safe to drink. In some of the rural regions of Nepal communities still depends on getting their drinking water from tube wells. The Terai Region contains sedimentary layers of sand, gravel deposits interlocked with flood plains carried by rivers and is extremely vulnerable to arsenic contamination. The sanitation situation of Saptary district is very poor and current latrine coverage is about 27%.There has been outbreak of cholera happen in Tilathi on 2012, 111 person suffered from with diarrhea and 2 died of …show more content…
Rational of the study
The study focus to the mothers of under 5 years of age children because the disease related to water sanitation and hygiene are the leading cause of under 5 mortality and morbidity and the mothers are directly linked with the child's health as they are the one take care of there children.
This study shows the mothers knowledge and there practice on water sanitation and hygiene of Saptary district .After study it helps to the district public health office for there program planning relating to the water sanitation and hygiene, helps to the non governmental organization, researcher.
Safe drinking water play a vital place in health care system. There is close link between clean water, sanitation, hygiene, waterborne disease, infant mortality rate and population growth. Provision of clean water helps to reduce waterborne disease.
