Water Quality Lab Water is one of the most important substances on earth. All people and animals need water. None of the can survive without water. No water means now life on earth. Water is important because it help you prevent heart attacks, that's if you drink a lot of clean water. Water also is good for losing weight. When you exercise you need water, and without water you can't live. There are many ways why our water is dirty in beaches, lakes, and even the sea. Water can get dirty for oil spills, and because of Phosphates and Nitrogens. Phosphates and Nitrogens usually come from factories, fertilizers, and even car wash detergent. The water condition was in the middle. Not too bad nor too good. The water had a very dirty brown and greenish color. The quality was very bad. The water was polluted. The main big thing was that there was a lot of broken dead trees everywhere around the dirty …show more content…
The EPA Standards for Nitrate-Nitrogen is, less than 10 ppm.
The EPA Standards for Carbon Dioxide is, less than 30 ppm.
The EPA Standards for Ph is, 1-6 acidic/ 7 neutral/ 8-14 base.
The EPA Standards for Turbidity is, less than 40 JTU.

EPA standards are important because with all this information you can determine whether your water is polluted or not. You can also determine whether the water is clean enough to drink if there is no clean water available. The positive results of this test are, Dissolved Oxygen, Calcium, Nitrate-Nitrogen, and Turbidity. These are the only 4 tests that came out positive. Otherwise the other ones came out negative. In the creek, the pollutants must have come from, Grass Fertilizers. Near the creek there was a big land with grass and that land must have had fertilizers in it in order to stay green. Another reason why the creek may have been polluted because of, Sewage Treatment. In the creek there was a small tunnel which most likely carried sewage wastes. After testing the water I would rate the water 4/10. That's because the water is very polluted. This water is undrinkable. The rating that was given in the beginning of the lake test was 5/10 but now after testing the water shows that the water is polluted, the lake has been given 4/10 instead of

Lab testing for metals, pH, and oxygen levels is done on the water leaving the facility to ensure that there will be no damage done to the river ecosystem when the water is released. However, during times of high rainfall there is an influx of water, and it can cause the facility to flood, causing waste and sludge to contaminate nearby land and water. In these cases, waste may contaminate water sources such as rivers and ponds. Additionally, nearby land could get damaged and require…

With this experiment intend to prove Salem Lakes ability to buffer chemicals used in the water treatment process versus that of the Yadkin River. Using a jar test machine, simulated the addition of an acid in the form of Al2SO4, and a base NaOH to the coagulation process. Salem Lake does show a preferred buffering at higher acid doses, though Yadkin River is more efficient at the low to mid-range dose. INTRODUCTION There is a distinct difference in the buffering capacity of Salem Lake versus Yadkin River.…

My hypothesis, if we test the water from the Conodoguinet Creek for signs of pollution, then the results would be negative for the pollution because the water appears clear at most parts of the river, is somewhat correct. Based on our findings, the degrees of pollution of the Conodoguinet Creek are very low. The phosphate levels, phosphate meaning a salt or ester of phosphoric acid (mineral acid), are at most 1. Nitrate is a salt or ester of nitric acid. The levels of nitrate are also very low, up to 1.2.…

Referring to the profile of each individual transect it is evident that an abiotic factor affecting the entire ecosystem was the dumping of litter; as there was more than one-hundred pieces of litter in only the groups specified transects. More specifically, a disturbing abiotic factor affecting the geology of the soil and quality of the water was an oil spill that was noted to have emerged from the closest storm drain to its collection site (refer to annotated map). Additional oil residue was sited further down the creek which was surrounding two pipes that connected to the back of a local residents. The reasons for these pipes are unknown but sceptically thinking, the local residents are either putting waste product from their house to the creek or are taking the creek water for personal use.…

Here in Fredericksburg, we are situated in one of the most idyllic portions of Virginia, we are far enough south from DC and far enough north from Richmond and just rural enough that our AQI is hovers typically around 20. Additionally, our power is supplied by one of the largest nuclear power plants in the US, the North Anna Power Station, so we experience none of the effects of the coal mining or burning that supplies much of the state's energy. In light of this, and because it interests me personally I have chosen to investigate water quality as the topic of my final paper. While nearly all of the larger waterways in the Chesapeake Basin are rated at a "good" water quality according to the EPA's "Your Community" section, there are a number of smaller tributaries that are "impacted" or worse quality.…

Boil Water Advisories: Boil water advisories should be issued if there is evidence that there are levels of waterborne, disease causing bacteria, viruses or parasites in any of the water treatment systems or transporting infrastructure. Additionally, if turbidity standards are not met at the source, a boil water advisory should be advised (Health Canada, 2008). These advisories are generally issues by the responsible authorities or by means of the public health unit and are not lifted until the actions/improvements have been made to ensure a clean supply (Saskatchewan Water, n.d.). This is different from a precautionary measure as that needs to be evidence that the previous has not been met through means such as poor filtration/disinfection…

Lake Tahoe is located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the northeastern part of California, boarding Nevada. It is well known as a tourist attraction for its great depth and clear cobalt blue waters located at high elevation. The combination of its depth, low ratio of watersheds to lake surface area, and its granite rock geology has lead to the creation of a low fertile and high transparent monomictic lake. Its also unique in that it doesn’t fully mix from top to bottom every year, lake many other lakes (Swift et al., 2005). With Lake Tahoe’s naturally low activity levels and higher clarity levels, when Secchi disc depths are taken the readings will show higher values as it is easier to see deeper into the water when there aren’t many…

Water is Florida’s best natural resource in the Sunshine State simply because it surrounds all of Florida and it is what draws people to our state. There are two big beautiful oceans that surround the state of Florida. There are also several lakes, rivers, springs and other bodies of water. Although, the biggest problem in Florida is the pollution going into Florida’s waterways; everyone has a role on the pollution. Homeowner’s are a part of the problem because they are trying to keep their lawns green and lush by using fertilizer and pesticides that eventually run into some type of body of water (Call and Stephenson).…
