The phony is the type of player that will fake an injury, call a foul, or even play dirty. This person will often claim to have become injured, resulting in an instant ejection. This is bad and will often greatly shift the odds of winning in one team's favor. Another thing that they often do is call a foul, they do this by moving in a way that suggests that the defender is hurting them, or even forcibly move their defenders bodies to put them in an incriminating position. The third tactic employed by the phony is playing dirty. In water polo anything done beneath someone's neck is fair game, because the referees cannot see underwater and the phonies can and will do anything to beat you, including punching, kicking or even scratching. Phonies in every type of sport, ranging from the soccer player that got “kicked” to the basketball player who “did not mean to punch that man.” But phonies in water polo are quite possibly the worst because there is more freedom granted in water polo than any other sport.
