Last week we worked on ocean currents. We worked on a lot of things about water pollution. We went over things about acid rain, we went over stuff about sewage and wastewater, we went over stuff about industrial waste. Also during this week we went over oil pollution, eutrophication, radioactive waste, marine dumping, and also underground storage leaks. We all split into groups and made a presentation about one of them. After that we made a google document about a reflection on the presentations. I learned that acid rain is caused by industries releasing things into the air. Marine dumping is the dumping of litter into the sea by heavy rains and flood that wash the trash into the water. I learned that acid rain is caused by industries releasing things into the air. Marine dumping is the dumping of litter into the sea by heavy rains and flood that wash the trash into the water. The oxygen in the water is lost when the trash is dumped into the water. A fact is that every dumping starts in rivers, lakes, and estuaries. Another fact is that over the past 50 years oceans have been under a serious threat from the wastes. And he last fact about marine dumping is that the affected areas are fishing, beaches, resorts, human health, and other uses of the sea. Another presentation that I took notes on is the one about Underground storage leaks. Underground storage leaks are the leaks of substances underground, which is caused by storage tanks corroding and springing

Next, people dump sewage and garbage from boats and on beaches (Doc 2).…

When someone throws a plastic wrapper out the car window, or down the sewer drain, does it ever occur to them where that trash goes? According to litteritcostsyou.org, 1.9 billion tons of litter ends up in the ocean each year. Plastic is polluting Earth at a disturbing rate; humans are essentially killing themselves and killing everything else that surrounds them off this planet due to prolonged littering. What most people don’t know, is that litter such as plastic bags and cigarette butts, do not dissolve or disintegrate, or at least within a human’s lifetime. Marine life and other animals that live near bodies of water consume the trash humans carelessly dispose, which kills them due to choking and other hazardous effects from trash consumption.…

Seventy percent of garbage ends up sinking to the bottom of the ocean and ends up damaging the ocean floor. Imagine if Professor Zamilla dumps seventy percent of her garbage into your home. Soon, it will begin piling and piling up, until you are forced to move out of your home, or end up dying in the rubbish. Most of us have been to either a lake or a beach. You remember seeing the waves crashing onto the shore, little kids screaming and making sand castles, and smelling the salty ocean air.…

Pugh’s purpose of this article is to describe and persuade readers about larger issue at hand while informing readers to the health concerns of the oceans around the world. What he finds later is that he seriously underestimated the true severity of this issue all around the world. Pugh’s supports his ideas by giving specific examples of what he experienced firsthand while doing these swims all around the world from the different oceans he swam through. For example, during his swim in the black sea he observed Mnemiopsis which according to the article is an invasive species of jellyfish that rapidly reproduces and allegedly creates havoc on the ecosystem.…

Marine debris is anything from a plastic bag to an aluminum can that made the ocean or beach its home. Whether it was left by a careless beachgoer or a boat dropped it overboard accidently, it is now debris. Litter is another name for it, though that name is more commonly associated with its land counterpart, and it also affects the environment and those inhabiting it. The affects are devastating to the marine life in the oceans with animals such as sea turtles mistaking it for food or getting caught in it and being unable to free itself leading to its death. It also causes for accidental harm like gathering on the top of the water and disrupting sunlight trying to pass through…

The way we neglect our ocean with heavy amounts of pollution can potentially affect our lives in a negative manner. Driving cars and the use of plastic is essential to our daily lives, but we use them without the concern for how they are affecting the habitats on Earth. Some people think that the chance that they are doing harm to the ocean is less important to them than cost or inconvenience of fixing a pollution problem. Through sources from researchers and scientists, they have found evidence of pollution caused by the two essential commodities in our lives, plastic and burning fossil fuels. Environmentalists have found solutions to reduce the plastic waste in our ocean as well as attempting to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere…

This article talks about how much things people are getting away in international water. One of the things that people get away with is polluting the water in the ocean intentionally. This is wrong for many reasons;the major reasons is that a lot of fishes and animals that depend on that water to live in and eat are dying because of all the oil being dumped there. Another reason is that it’s not just the ocean that is being polluted, but the air is also being polluted and that affects all of us and the environment. A fact that was stated in the article was that by 2020 shipping vessels will be the biggest air polluter in Europe and that is a horrible thing considering how many people live there.…
