Water pollution is arguably the worst, or one of the worst forms of pollution affecting the world today. Take a look into a glass of tap water, looks clean right? From the naked eye, tap water looks clear, yet there are millions of microscopic contaminants in that single glass of water. Depending on where one lives, receives their water, and the environment around them, determines the purity of the water. Water pollution can be devastating to the environment, affects economics, and alters people 's daily lives. The most problematic of water pollutants are microbes that induce disease. Two main types of these pollutants make up all pollution are created by humans, those being point source, and non-point source pollution. Point source pollution is any kind of harmful waste that directing impacts the environment, especially water.
An example of this would be a factory or a sewer system directly dumping waste products in a river, stream, or lake. An example of point source pollution was in the fall of 2014 in Brainerd Minnesota. There was a malfunction in one of the main water towers that fed water to many Brainerd homes. One of the output pipes had broke leading contaminants to get into the water leaving the water tower. The bacteria in the water was harmful enough to make many people sick. Grocery stores had stocked up on bottled water because water coming out of the taps was too dangerous to drink without boiling it. Yes, the water looked clean, but it was not.…
