All About Water Water is a transparent fluid that is found on about 75% of the earths surface. Water makes up the worlds streams, lakes, oceans, rivers, and ponds. Besides making up a large portion of earths surface, water is a fundamental part of life for all biotic organisms. Every living thing needs water to survive. Water begins to boil at 100 degrees celsius, or 212 degrees fahrenheit. Water freezes at 0 degrees celsius, or 32 degrees fahrenheit. Water has average density of 999.97 kg/m³. Although water is considered a renewable resource, the amount of usable drinking water, and the sustainability of the worlds water is questionable. The “8x8” rule states that we should drink at least 8, 8 oz glasses of water a day. This equals about 2 quarts, or half a gallon. While its said we need to drink 2 liters of water a day, other studies disregard the 8x8 rule and state that we should sip water constantly throughout the day, to stay hydrated. Water makes up about 60% of our body, and we are constantly losing it, mainly through urine and sweat. One study has proven that fluid loss can affect both mood and concentration. If we don 't stay hydrated throughout the day,our brain functions and energy levels will suffer.
