Gabriella and her sister Evangelia speak very much like normal teenagers in this book. It also switches back and forth to American and Medieval language. Gabi seems to notice a change in her type of speaking. In some instances of the book, the switch to American to Medieval language was a little excessive and awkward. The characters had their own unique and funny personalities. Luca was perhaps the funniest guy in the book! He was kind of a flirtatious and a teasing kind of person. “Saints in heaven…. We might fight our way out of here, but then Marcello and I will spend the rest of our lives defending the gates with two ladies as lovely as you behind them” ( Bergren, 282).
