Watchmen in graphic novel form does an amazing job at presenting many different themes about ethics, the weight of war, and even drawing to light how well the different aspects of graphic novels can work together. In “Watchmen As Literature”, Sanders discusses how each aspect, especially the visual aspects in a novel like Watchmen is planned carefully, and not without reason. In the article, it’s said that Moore would have detailed drafts and notes about what was to happen within the novel, based on how it would affect the story as a while. While the movie manages to still tell a gripping story, the small changes made work to tell the story differently on an emotional level given the small changes made to put it on the silver screen. …show more content…
While Jon is still blue, and the stark yellow of the iconic smiley face continues to command the screen, other techniques are not taken advantage of. A great example of the way that color makes a difference in the way that the story of The Comedian’s death is told without the red wash over the panels that the novel presented (Watchmen, Chapter 1, page 2-4). Red is an important color within the context of that particular scene for many reasons. One, it is the color of blood, which is dripping down The Comedian’s face, and it is the color of aggression, an emotion that The Comedian is often shown to be feeling. The association that the red wash offers to the reader is lost when put on the screen, taking away different associations and, in the end, taking away part of the

The biggest conflict in the book is the war that is going on. Because of this war, the Gypsy people, such as Jakob and his family, were being rounded up and slaughtered. He describes in raw detail using these traits how being beaten up and almost killed were the small moments that he was willing to take in order to stay alive and protect his father. Throughout his adolescence, Wiesel is endlessly…

"A work of literature must provide more than factual accuracy or vivid physical reality... it must tell us more than we already know. " - E. M. Forster. This means that the story must provide a little more then just facts and vivid physical reality. It must give more knowledge of what is already known and what is and must be achieved. I agree with the critical lens is valid because without the method of writing readers would be lost when they read about articles.…

It is told from the point of view of an ordinary working-class soldier, who is reflecting on the idea that the man he killed in battle probably had a lot in common with him. He deals with an internal struggle as his thoughts are regretful before he even shoots. The narrator ponders that , he would have befriended the combatant.…

“Fading light buttered the ridges until shadows licked them clean and they were lost to nightfall.”- Daniel Woodrell. This quote by Daniel Woodrell illustrates how light used to exist until it was extinguished by the darkness brought about by a shadow. Moreover, this was just the case for the author of the novel Night- Elie Wiesel. As a survivor of the Holocaust, Elie Wiesel was forced into witnessing horrible atrocities that embedded a veil of darkness around him and thus he was deprived from seeing the light in his life.…

Watchmen, by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, illustrates the consequences of one attaining power in order to save the world from danger. There are three characters who have different philosophies in which they believe can save the world from destroying themselves. Ozymandias believed that to save the world from danger, there should be a mass murder of people on earth, in order to save billions. The Comedy of Nothingness: Nihilism of the Comedian in Watchmen In Alan Moore and Gave Gibbons’ 1986 comic Watchmen, a recurring theme throughout the novel is the use of Nihilism. I will be doing a close reading/literary analysis of how nihilism is reflected and used in the comic Watchmen. I will argue that doing a close reading of the character The Comedian in Watchmen, I can show how the philosophy of Nihilism is reflected not only in the comic but how that connection is represented in present day politics. Why is the Comedian a more accurate representation of the American military compared to Captain America? How does nihilism in Watchmen reflect today’s current political society?…

In those scenes, the colours would suddenly change from whatever they had been in the previous panels, to be replaced by a sort of blue wash. It is this effect which I have called into play in my edit of “Norma, Queen of the Hotdogs”. Apart from the reference to the comic’s overtly violent contemporaries, the sudden shift to blue tones darkens the mood of the story, making the goings on seem sinister, and giving the whole thing a stormy, turbulent…

For years history has been known to bring people together, but drive people away, force people to learn or make similar mistakes. In Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner, it plays an essential role in both the character and plot development of the story. As shown in The Kite Runner history is not always on the side of the oppressed as sometimes it can come back to haunt you, regardless, being able to create a teachable moment out of a poor decision in the past is a valuable lesson. History can be shown to be haunting through the author’s use of literary devices, the physical history of Afghanistan, and how easy it is to make the same mistakes.…
