Neko Case Video Analysis

After watching the three videos for this week’s discussion post, I have a better understanding of the difference between a normal press kit and an EPK. In dealing with the artist that I have been working with through out this class I feel that a more creative video like the Neko Case video would be more suiting to the artist. They too are indie and artsy, maybe without the animated colleges but this style of video would get their story across and still promote the new album. Her video is a short film about where she came from and how she got there, much like The Blind Spots could use their background story to promote a new album. They too look at life in a different light, and an EPK that highlights the creative genius would just be the type of thing to show case a new album after several years.

Referring again to the Neko Case video she is promoting her new album, but she is also promoting how she made the video. Her EPK is more of a narrative about how she was inspired and the emotional feelings that went into this album. I have listened to Neko Case prior to watching this video, and yes this video is very

It is “funny” because unfortunately her music and the sappy sad pet rescue commercials have become synopses. This is too bad because if you can think past those commercials she is a very talented singer/song writer. Her purpose is to show the world she is more than just what meets the eye. It is a promotional video for her new album, but it is also a video that shows her music is a complete reflection of her life. That is deeper and more meaningful than most people realize. Reminding the viewers of her accomplishments does help her brand, it proves that she is very humble about her whole career and feels that she still has a long way to go. This video is directly targeted towards the industry. She is stating that she is ready to take on the world and what ever is thrown at

This documentary "Dreamworlds- Desire, Sex, and Power in music Videos" tries to explain how the popular culture influences contemporary music video and how this is affecting today’s culture. “Dreamworlds” insists that these narratives and cultural attitudes have shaped these music videos into sexualizing women, and filtering the identities of both men and women into “myths” about sexuality and gender. The subject group in these music videos tended to be mostly about women and how they are misrepresented and used in popular culture. Overall I agree with the film message that these music videos are misleading and only demonstrated with one point of view in which the audience can see through. For instance, the women are sexualized and presented as mere objects of for the video and men as well.…

Janelle Monae has been taking steps toward becoming one of the most influential recording artists of our time. Monae's video "Q.U.E.E.N." from her second album titled The Electric lady exemplifies her influence on the society where you can be judged for your appearance. This video was a statement declaring her happiness with who she is despite the judgment from others in a society where your image, your cultural values, and what is viewed as acceptable and appropriate behavior is looked down upon. This video gives a clear idea on how people pass judgment on someone just because of their image.…

The title track for her upcoming album (to be released October 23 through Drag City), Divers will be giving an exclusively theatrical release in America from October 16-22, and also in the UK on October 27th. It will primarily screen at theaters renowned for showing independent and art house films, such as the IFC Center in New York City. The video is directed by American filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood), who featured Newsom heavily in his last film, Inherent Vice.…

Rhetorical strategies are used in throughout our lives. There are seven rhetorical strategies: purpose, message, voice, audience, ethos, pathos, and logos. Without these seven rhetorical strategies, it would be impossible to persuade someone, sell a product, or win an argument. These seven rhetorical strategies are what make a commercial good and effective. Comparing the commercials “In the Arms of an Angel” and “What Not To Buy”, “In the Arms of an Angel” demonstrates better uses of purpose, message, voice, logos, and pathos.…

Dreams and goals fill minds in a rare attempt to better themselves, to be more driven, and to lose some weight. But alas, as the year progresses (notably a week later), procrastination clouds our goals, making it easy to lose sight of them. However, perhaps SNL’s comedic music video, “Resolution Revolution” will halt procrastination in its path and change the way people see and strive for their goals.…

In the video we see alot of people who were sterilized as punishment to whatever they had done and that is simply ridiculous. We had 8 year olds being sterilized because their teacher thought they were flirting with a boy. It is very cruel and unusual punishment yet the United States still allowed for it to happen. Even things such as cases where a girl gets raped and is sterilized because they say she was the one that put it upon herself. This is most definitely cruel and unusual punishment from the government.…
