I decided to watch a video version of this public hearing. On February 27th, 2015 at city hall in Philadelphia in the morning; The committee on disabled and special needs came together to hear testimony on the benefits of having companies help find jobs for people who are deemed “special needs or disabled”. The reason why the public hearing was called to order was because of 150026 and 150027 both are resolutions. The committee is the committee for disabled and special needs, on the panel was Chairman Dennis O’Brian, Council woman Sanchez, council member Blackwell.

The testimonies were mixed from personal experience to work experience. There were more work personal testimonies rather than personal experiences testimonies. They were all interesting stories to listen to because everyone who spoke were very passionate about having equality in the work field and education. The only change which happened at the end was a viewer of the public hearing came up and spoke to the council because (Judy) felt like the testimonies were missing the component of those who had severe brain injuries like hers which causes her to have seizures. When Judy gave her testimony it felt authentic because she didn’t have anything written down. She just knew everything she wanted to say and have the information out there about severe brain injuries. In this public hearing they split it up into 3 groups of testimony. Rose, Emily, Ed and Spin worker were part of group one. Rose started off and had stated that she suffers from PSTD and has dyslexia. Emily works for the programs that Rose benefited from like education plus. Then Ed explained his situation and then his mentor from his job explained what his company does for disabled and mentally challenged. …show more content…
I actually wish I saw this in person because I wanted to let those who gave personal testimony know that they aren’t alone. There were 3 panels of testimony , each panel 1 person kept bringing up the idea of its not about the disability of a person but their ability to get the work done. Which every person who mentioned it made a negative word sound positive. What I learned is that there are more programs in the city of Philadelphia for special needs and disabilities services in the work field. I actually only knew of the services in the school system because I went through it. After watching this 2 hour public hearing, it made me realize is that experience is great for change. But if you want change you have to actually advocate for it. Telling your story isn’t always enough because the person you tell might not fully understand. It’s if you want change and to tell your personal story you have to be very exclusive as to who you tell. The only thing I found conflicting in this public hearing is that there were too many testimonies and it seemed like they were trying to cram in everyone. As much as It’s great to hear personal stories I actually think they should have picked at least two people instead of four. Then added more testimony about what is actually being done in Philadelphia today to change these situations. Nothing discussed I
