Washington once said, “However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.” What he’s saying is political parties divide the government, in the end leading to arguments and overall dysfunctional relationships. One example today would be Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. If you’ve ever watched the news you know that the relationship creates lies and propaganda. Although not all relationships between the two parties are estranged, often times they don’t get along. After all these years, the advice he gave should be looked upon with gratitude. If we would’ve recognized his advice and adhered to it maybe we wouldn’t be where we are now. We are almost 20 trillion dollars in debt, and our political parties turn elections into puerile acts of immaturity. The only thing we partially follow is having no permanent alliances.
