Washington Street Bridge
The Washington Street bridge, completed in 1921, was dedicated to the “the sons of Delaware who joined forces of their country in The Great War” on Memorial Day, 1922. The 250 foot, open spandrel arch bridge serves as a lasting and rare example of monumental architecture in Delaware. At the time of its completion it was considered the longest bridge of its kind in the Nation. Not only monumental in scale, the bridge serves as a memorial to those who have served in the military.
